Terms of Service

Effective May 10, 2026

These Terms govern your use of the CarSense mobile application and related services (together, "CarSense" or "the Service"), provided by Slick Engineering & Consulting, Inc. ("we," "us"). By using CarSense, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use CarSense. If you're under 18, you must have a parent or guardian's permission. By creating an account, you represent that you meet these requirements.

2. The Service

CarSense reads OBD2 diagnostic data from your vehicle via a Bluetooth adapter you supply, and provides AI-generated diagnostic explanations and cost estimates. CarSense does not perform repairs, dispatch mechanics, or guarantee that any specific repair will resolve your vehicle's issue.

Important — CarSense is informational, not authoritative. The diagnostic explanations, cost ranges, and severity ratings CarSense provides are estimates based on aggregated industry data and AI inference. They are NOT a substitute for inspection by a qualified mechanic. Never rely solely on CarSense to determine whether your vehicle is safe to drive — if you have any doubt, stop driving and consult a professional.

3. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity that happens under your account. Notify us immediately at ios-support@slick-engineering.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time (Profile → Delete Account). Deletion is permanent.

4. Subscriptions and payments

CarSense offers a free tier and paid subscription tiers ("Pro Monthly" and "Pro Annual"), processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. By subscribing:

You authorize the platform (Apple or Google) to charge the payment method on file at the price disclosed at the time of purchase.
Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal.
You can cancel any time from your platform's subscription settings (iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions; Android: Google Play → Subscriptions).
Refunds, if any, are issued by Apple or Google according to their respective policies.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use CarSense for any unlawful purpose.
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app or our servers.
Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its security mechanisms, or other users' use.
Submit fake, misleading, or automated diagnostic requests in volume.
Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service without our written permission.
Use the AI diagnostic feature to generate or process content unrelated to vehicle diagnostics.

6. Intellectual property

The CarSense app, our backend services, the trained AI prompts and orchestration, and all related content (excluding your own data and any third-party data sources we license) are owned by Slick Engineering & Consulting, Inc. and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use CarSense for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.

7. Your content

You retain ownership of your vehicle records, scan history, AI conversations, and any reviews you submit. By submitting content to CarSense, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. Reviews you submit on repair shops may be visible to other CarSense users and to the shop being reviewed.

8. Third-party content and links

CarSense may surface content from third-party sources, including manufacturer service bulletins, vehicle recall notices, and aggregated repair cost data. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of third-party content. Repair shops listed in CarSense are independent businesses; we are not responsible for the quality, pricing, or legality of services they provide.

9. Disclaimers

CARSENSE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE FROM HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, DIAGNOSTIC EXPLANATIONS, COST ESTIMATES, AND SEVERITY RATINGS PROVIDED BY CARSENSE ARE ESTIMATES BASED ON GENERAL INDUSTRY DATA AND ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR INSPECTION BY A QUALIFIED MECHANIC. YOU ASSUME ALL RISK ASSOCIATED WITH DECISIONS YOU MAKE BASED ON CARSENSE OUTPUT, INCLUDING DECISIONS ABOUT WHETHER A VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL SLICK ENGINEERING & CONSULTING, INC. BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF — OR INABILITY TO USE — THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100 USD).

Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so portions of these limitations may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Slick Engineering & Consulting, Inc. from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

12. Termination

You can stop using CarSense at any time and delete your account from inside the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that, in our reasonable judgment, threatens the Service or other users. Sections 6 (IP), 9 (Disclaimers), 10 (Liability), 11 (Indemnification), and 14 (Governing Law) survive termination.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of CarSense after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

If you live outside the United States, the consumer protection laws of your country of residence may grant you additional rights — these Terms don't override mandatory protections of local law.

15. Apple App Store additional terms

If you obtained CarSense from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Slick Engineering & Consulting, Inc. only — not with Apple Inc. Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and Apple's App Store Terms of Service, Apple's terms control to the extent of the conflict. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with respect to your use of CarSense on iOS.
